This is a working name for the project I would like to do. This will be a long project that I plan to do in my free time. I’d like to take photos of LGBT+ individuals, who live in Southern Illinois and the St. Louis area, to prove that there is a wide variety. This will be a 3-6 month process.
I’m hoping this project can inspire others, and encourage them that they are not alone. This will just be my starting point, I hope to find individuals, and couples, who identify as other parts of the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. However, I know there are many, many of us out there.
My medium will be photography, and possibly writing. I hope to photograph the individuals however they would like to be photographed, with little to no editing. I would also like to include couples in their daily lives.
I plan to start off with 50 (Out) individuals, 18 years old or older, who live in Southern Illinois and the St. Louis area. My focus will be on people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, Transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, non-binary, questioning, queer, and any combination of those, at the day photographed. My target also includes POC, disabled folx, older individuals, femmes, queens, local drag performers, and any others who may not have much mainstream media visibility.
